The Oil and Gas Industry is very familiar with the use of cladding to mitigate corrosion in pipelines, subsea valves, flanges and other subsea components used in the extraction of hydrocarbons from the sea bed.

 

As the world’s demand for energy increases offshore operations and the steady flow of fuel to produce the energy becomes ever more essential. The basic principle of cladding is to fuse a corrosion resistant alloy (CRA) to carbon steel, therefore increasing the asset lifespan, reducing downtime and maintenance costs.  The demand for cladded products within the Oil and Gas sector continues to grow, with the specifications requiring extremely high quality and automated cladding technology playing a vital role in meeting the quality requirements.

 

Corrosive elements such as hydrogen sulphide, carbon dioxide and chlorides that are contained in the hydrocarbons play their part in dictating the type of CRA filler material (Alloy 625, 825, Super duplex stainless) which is used, along with the pressure and temperatures of deep water wells.

 

Clad pipe, fuses two metals together combining their properties and producing the structural strength of steel with the corrosion-resistant properties of the CRA on the inner area of the tubular. This is also effective protection against hydrogen embrittlement and pitting corrosion which occurs when there is a high level of chlorides present.

At our state of the art facility in Belfast, we offer bespoke pipeline cladding services to Oil and Gas industry. A Corrosive Resistant Alloy (CRA) is applied using our own designed technology, according to our client’s specifications.

 

The application is suitable for both onshore and offshore pipelines with a choice of nickel based or super duplex stainless steel alloys available. The choice of alloys should reflect to corrosive environment in which the element is being used.

 

Inter Weld is capable of manufacturing a range of pipes, flanges and additional fittings required for critical projects.
